The main reason a corner leaks is due to poor quality products, installation or time. Caulking only lasts so long when exposed to UV's and weather, so it is recommended to be inspected or replaced around 10 years.

This could be caused by a couple reasons. Blocked downspouts restricts the water from draining away from your house. This Causes the water to freeze and back up your downspouts into your eavestrough, which then keeps building up and than can make its way back into your house.
Incorrect slope on your eavestrough can cause water to sit and freeze and build up.
Weather is another culprit of ice-damming. The freeze thaw we experience during our Calgary winters does not let the water fully drain away before freezing again and can build up inside your eavestrough.
